My spa blue KitchenAid mixer is my best friend in the kitchen.  I use to have a red one to go with my red kitchen accessories.  When I got married, I decided my new favorite color was spa blue, or light turquoise, if you will.  I decorated my new beach home almost exclusively in this color and as reliable as my red KitchenAid remained to be, it stuck out like a sore thumb.  Despite my ridiculous desire for befitting aesthetics, my husband agreed to buy me a shiny new spa blue KitchenAid for Christmas.  Isn’t it pretty?

It even gets its own counter in my kitchen.  I use it for making meatloaf, cookie dough, mashed potatoes or Elmer’s glue if you mix them too long.  Last night, “we” made pasta. It’s the first time I attempted to make homemade pasta with my beloved KitchenAid.  Mike has done it several times.  Of course, I screwed up the recipe and Mike had to come in and save the day.  Somehow I managed to nearly triple the amount of water I was suppose to use in the recipe and the dough was so sticky, it was impossible to work with. I kept adding more and more flour, not realizing what I had done wrong.

and fail…

This is what it is suppose to look like…

Thanks, honey.  Next time I’ll surely get it right.

While it’s a lot of trouble and a big ole mess, boy it’s worth it.  Have you ever eaten fresh pasta?  Oh, my!  In all of my life, I’ve eaten at one, single restaurant that made fresh pasta and they closed.  Ugh!

I made chicken piccata to go with the pasta. DSC_2787.JPG

I also made baked parmesan zucchini chips using sliced zucchini, olive oil, Panko breadcrumbs, fresh oregano and parmesan cheese.

Believe it or not, I think I’m ready to take on the pasta again.
