I was recently introduced to a trend I didn’t know existed.  As I studied this craze, I became shocked at its popularity!  Eating more vegetables for your health is a given.  Fruit?  Yep!  Committing to a fitness routine?  Absolutely!  Getting more sleep, drinking more water…visiting a clinic for someone to stick a disposable tube up your arse to flush years of disgusting crud from your intestines? Uhhhhh…. 

I’m a clean freak so, the idea of my colon being squeaky-clean sounds pretty good!  Proponents claim that colonic cleansing can wash away arthritis, high blood pressure and remove toxins, enhancing the immune system and boosting energy.  People all over the world are popping in for a cleanse, claiming to lose inches from their bellies.

Here’s my short and sweet:

No, no and then another no.  God made our bodies to poop, therefore he made our bodies to handle poop.  No one needs a colon cleansing unless a colonoscopy is in order.  This new health trend poses a risk for dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, infection and even rectal perforation.

If you’re worried about your gut, eat the recommended 25-38 grams of fiber a day by incorporating more vegetables, fruits, beans and whole grains.  Drink plenty of water and poop…like a normal person.
