Everyone’s doing it. The detox diet. Following a cleanse diet often requires drinking special juices, taking supplements or following strict diet regimens that require exclusion of certain foods. The idea behind detox is to rid your body of environmental toxins, such as phthalates from plastic, breathing exhaust or chemicals absorbed from cosmetics. These diets guarantee elimination of endotoxins as well, the byproducts produced in the body as a result of natural metabolism.

You don’t need anything special to support your body’s natural detoxification process. The body uses the liver, lungs, colon, kidneys and skin to neutralize or dispose of pesticides, drug metabolites, environmental pollutants and byproducts of metabolism every day.

1. The best way to support your body’s natural detoxification is through good hydration as each process that occurs in your body requires at least one molecule of good old H2O.

2. Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Plant foods contain over 100,000 different phytonutrients which protect the body’s cells from mutations that lead to the development of cancer. Research has proven that a plant-based diet prevents and may even reverse some diseases like diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. Plant-based diet intervention groups report weight loss, higher levels of energy and improvements in digestion. Studies show improvements in cholesterol, inflammation and even depression.

3. The body’s master detoxification enzyme, glutathione, requires adequate protein to maintain its optimal level in the body. Good sources of protein include lean meats, fish, tofu, beans and lentils.

4. To help your body manage toxins from microbes that live in the gut, include natural probiotics in Kefir, yogurt and kimchi in your diet.

5. Be sure you get enough fiber each day which helps improve digestive issues. Eat plenty of cruciferous vegetables, berries, whole grain, nuts and seeds.

6. Green tea is a natural tumor growth inhibitor and helps nurture the body’s natural cleansing processes.
