about the HCG diet? For a little over $100, you get a container of
non-FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved pregnancy hormone that coupled with an insanely low-calorie diet will help you lose a lot of weight,
fast! The only way this diet works is if you start by eating 2 days worth of really fatty foods, followed by up to 40 or more days of virtually no food at all!! Boy! I just can’t click that order button fast enough!
Some restrictions that must be followed for the diet to work are intake of less than or equal to 500 calories a day,
no exercise, no mixing of vegetables, only certain vegetables are approved or recommended and of course, the critical hormone supplement. Avid HCG diet followers lose 40 lbs or more in 40 days! Some claim 70 lbs in 2 months!
Can I tell you friends, if you are only eating 500 calories a day or less, you
will lose weight. You certainly don’t need some expensive supplement to facilitate this loss! Not only will you lose weight, but over time you will put yourself at risk for amenorrhea (the absence of 3 consecutive menstrual cycles), mood swings and depression from the psychological effects of starvation, hair loss, cardiovascular complications, constipation, decreased kidney function, gallstones and impaired immunity.
The truth about this diet, just like any other severely low-calorie diet is that you experience weight loss because of the extreme calorie restriction. Similar to a carbohydrate deficit, a very low-calorie diet will trigger the body to respond by using fewer calories for every day activities and your body will store calories more efficiently. Healthy weight loss is a 5 lb loss in the first week, then 1-2 lbs every week following. You only need 500 calories less than you currently eat to accomplish that. If you are seeing claims and testimonies of 70 lbs of weight loss in 2-3 months, it either isn’t true or it isn’t safe!
You should never eat less than 1000 calories a day unless you are under the strict supervision of a physician. These diets are only used in extreme circumstances. If any diet or weight loss plan is advising you to avoid exercise, it is because is isn’t safe! The Mayo Clinic (a non-profit worldwide leader in medical care, research and education) says that companies that sell HCG products for weight loss are breaking the law.
To give you an idea of safe weight loss, if you weigh around 125 lbs, try a 1600 calorie meal plan. If you weigh around 150#, eat around 1800 calories a day and if you weigh about 180#, try to maintain an intake of 2200 calories a day. Remember, any diet plan that encourages you to avoid any food group or exercise, is one you should avoid. Unless you have allergies, you can NEVER go wrong with fruits and vegetables! They are naturally low in calories and fat and packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants which will make controlling weight easier, prevent certain diseases and many different types of cancers.
Something you may not know: restricting caloric intake to
